A review from the show in San Jose, CA

I want ‘Mesmerica’ to inspire you into taking a journey with me inside the mind, to engage your senses and feelings with miraculous alchemy of sound and light!
— James Hood, Show Creator
I had no idea what to expect when my family and I attended this show over the weekend. For me, it was about having quality time together. Now that I have seen it, the first thing that comes to mind is: sensory overload.
Typically, I become quite anxious when my senses are overwhelmed. But in this case, it was exhilarating!
This viewing was at the Tech Interactive Museum in downtown San Jose, CA. Presented in the IMAX dome theater with its planetarium vibes, we sat back in our seats and let the wonder and mystery envelope us.

The show is roughly 50 minutes of spectacular colors and sounds. The 360 dome creates intense images of movement that make you feel like you’re zipping through a jungle, flying through space, or being elevated to the top of an extraordinarily high ceiling (that was a trip).

The voice of James Hood interjects throughout the show, and it’s clear his intention is for the audience to go deep within their own minds and become relaxed and content within their bodies. While there are moments of relaxation, I found it much too loud, bright, and intriguing to settle into any meditative state (although I have never been good at meditating in any condition).

Mesmerica has select showings across the US, Canada, and the UK. It is an enjoyable and unique experience that is less than hour long (for those who struggle through long shows/performances) and the price point in San Jose was under $30 per person for general admission.
My family and I all enjoyed this show. If you have the opportunity to see it in your area, I’d encourage you to go. The sound and visuals are captivating, but more than that, the underlying theme of hope, love, and being the best version of yourself (hopefully) leaves you brimming with content.
